Frequently asked questions
1. IS YOUR MUSIC AVAILABLE AS PDF FILES?

a) For all the music published by Presser (or Tenuto which is now part of Presser), check at presser.com. Many of the pieces are available as pdf files, and some can be downloaded directly to your forScore (or Newzik) account. For any Presser pieces with no digital component on presser.com , email [email protected] and ask if they can make it available in digital format. Some of the older pieces haven't been converted yet, and it's worth asking.

b) For the few pieces published by Kendor or Keiser, please check their website.

c) For any older pieces that aren't published, please email [email protected] directly.

2. WOULD YOU CONSIDER MAKING OTHER INSTRUMENTATIONS OF A PIECE?

That depends on the piece, so please email me directly to ask. Some of my chamber and recital pieces already have ossia parts, and sometimes violinists play my flute parts straight from the flute publication.

3. HOW CAN MY ENSEMBLE (OR I) COMMISSION YOU?

Please see the Commission page on this website for a full answer.

4. I ORDERED YOUR MUSIC FOR A PERFORMANCE, AND IT DIDN'T ARRIVE YET. WHAT CAN I DO?

Sometimes this happens if a retailer hasn't ordered the music from the publisher yet. Presser sends out all orders within a day or two of receiving the order, both to music stores and to individual customers. If you ordered from elsewhere, please email [email protected] and explain the problem. Presser's customer service is great at jumping in to get the music to you.

5. HOW DO I BUY YOUR MUSIC IN MY COUNTRY, NOT IN THE UNITED STATES?

There are several ways, depending on where you live:

a) Many countries have music stores that buy directly from Presser. They stock the more popular titles and can order the others.

b) Presser has a warehouse in Germany! If you're in Europe, ask your local music store to order from Mainz Distribution Center, to save time and shipping costs.

c) See the FAQ #1 above about digital files.

d) For the pieces published by Kendor or Keiser, please contact them to ask, through the links on their websites.

6. I CAN'T FIND A PIECE ON YOUR WEBSITE THAT I THINK YOU WROTE? HOW ELSE CAN I CHECK?

a) On this website's homepage, you can look up pieces by instrumentation (the left column of links), which can be especially helpful if there's a question about the exact title of a piece.

b) On this website's homepage, you can also look up a complete alphabetical listing by title.

c) If neither of the above yields the piece you're looking for, please email me directly.

7. HOW DO I GET THE RIGHTS TO RECORD YOUR MUSIC?

a) If you're making the first commercial recording, or if you're not sure, the fastest way is to visit presser.com/licensing and follow the prompts. That will ask you every question the Licensing Department needs to expedite your request. You can also do this through the Harry Fox Agency.

b) If you know you're recording a piece that already has a previous commercial recording, it may be faster to license permission through Harry Fox, but you can also do this through presser.com/licensing. (If you're recording an album with music by many composers, HFA often has every piece you're looking for all on one website.)
