More about this all-Dorff Flute-Clarinet CD by the Scott-Garrison Duo. YOUTUBE of the Garrison-Scott CD recording PROGRAM NOTES ANDANTE CON VARIAZIONI was composed in July 1975, following my freshman year in college, as a birthday present for flutist Sharon Ostow Rousmaniere. Eager to compose a theme and variations for the first time, after becoming familiar with the genre from Beethoven to Ginastera, I developed a theme with an easily trackable melody and harmonic profile, so I could explore special textures in each of the 5 variations and keep the theme feeling present regardless of how far the actual surface varied. REVIEWS"interesting, imaginative... and certainly worthy of performance" The Clarinet (West), Winter 1987. UPDATES AFTER THE FIRST PRINTING Variation II, tempo should be 78-82 Variation IV, the clarinetist may use an A Clarinet here (fingering a half-step higher) |
