PROGRAM NOTES Through my friend and former classmate Christina Lynn, in the 1980s I became friends with her father, the composer and choral conductor George Lynn. I was already a fan of George's music, and I think he appreciated my neo-traditional composing. George once mentioned he had recently composed a "textless Alleluia" (meaning just that 1-word text is sung), and he wondered if I ever considered doing this. I hadn't until he asked, but it seemed an interesting way to write for chorus without considering the pacing or diction of the sung text, and Alleluia in D was composed soon after this. REVIEWS "adds a further example to the growing body of Alleluias to emerge from American organ lofts." Music Teacher (UK), July 1991. Recommended in The American Organist by Philip Brunelle, November 1991. |
