Described by pianist Jeffrey Biegel as sounding like "American-flavored Poulenc," the Concerto is in 3 movements of the traditional concerto pattern. Movement 1 is in A-B-A form with a light but fiery toccata interrupted by a gentle love song. Movement 2 is a set of variations on an original song, overall arching as slow-fast-slow swelling to a lush romantic climax. Movement 3, which is labeled "scherzando, exuberant" is a bubbling and cheerful rondo including a virtuosic cadenza including overlapping themes from throughout the concerto leading to a brilliant race to the finish.
