PROGRAM NOTES Around 1986, Presser was asked by a foreign publisher if they had short student-level pieces for alto saxophone and piano. There wasn't much to choose from, and having been a young saxophonist learning to read rhythm accurately, and then having to interpret the same notation differently for jazz, I wrote Cool Street for this occasion, to offer an easy intro to swing phrasing. |
