PROGRAM NOTES
When my nephew was an infant, I first met him at a family get-together at my parents' home. Standing around in the kitchen, I happened to notice "a baby called David eating from Grandma's hand, in Joan's kitchen." We are a family of word puzzle players, and I couldn't resist completing that alphabetical string to make a 26-word coherent sequence, then set it to music.

Feeling proud of and amused by this brief oeuvre, I then added another alphabetical song text to be a tango whose words begin: "All boys can dance, even fine gentlemen have inner jazz."

Ironically for a tongue-in-cheek diversion, this is my only composition to win a European new music prize.
